Taking Care of Your Loved Pets

As a pet parent, you want to do your best to take care of your pet. This includes regular daily activities to keep them happy and healthy.  Apply these few tips year after year for responsible pet care to keep your cats and dogs happy and healthy.

Veterinary Visits

Responsible animal care begins with regular visits to the vet.  Since their lifespan is shorter, you should check up on your dog or cat at least once or twice a year.  Make sure you consult a vet clinic close by like vet near roleystone. Depending on your pet’s vaccination schedule, vaccinations may be more frequent at a young age but to keep your pet healthy, it is essential to see a vet as pets gets older. Vet visits can be challenging.  Cats, in particular may be reluctant to leave a comfortable home, but there are ways to reduce stress levels.  It’s a good idea to get to know the cat when it’s a kitten. Take the puppy for a walk, so he doesn’t have to get into the car with the vet.  And many pets don’t mind going to the vet clinic, especially if you choose the right vet for your little friend.

Vaccinating your pet is an important part of responsible pet care.  Soon after you welcome your new pet into your home, get the vaccination.  At your first visit, your veterinarian will establish a schedule of vaccinations to protect your cat or dog from disease and illness.  Puppies should be vaccinated within the first few weeks after staying indoors.  They help prevent diseases such as rabies, Lyme disease and tuberculosis.  Cats benefit from vaccinations against the herpes virus and cats with leukemia and rabies.  If you are carrying an adult animal, be sure to vaccinate yourself as well.  Vaccines need to be updated, not just for small pets.

Name Them

Correct identification is key in such cases if the unthinkable happens and your kitten or puppy is misled, especially if the little ones don’t leave the home often.  Start with the simplest: a safety collar and a tag with all your contact information.  In addition to the identification plate, it is advisable to charge the pet with a microchip, since it will always stay.  This set of identification methods will go a long way in reuniting you and your beloved pet, but only if you update your contact information.  If you change your address or phone number, be sure to change the information in the chip file.

By sterilizing your pet it can prevent complicated pregnancies and reduce the number of homeless pets.  Sterilization of your cat significantly reduces the risk of cervical cancer, eliminates the risk of ovarian cancer and protects it from exposure to heat season.  This will make them less likely to escape searching for a mate and will make nearby male cats less aggressively.  Sterilizing your puppy will reduce his aggressiveness and wanderlust and prevent the growth of testicular cancer.  Since it is a surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia most probably your pet will have to spend one day in the clinic.
